Social Commerce Made a Shy Housewife Become and Online EntrePinay

Being a full time housewife is a noble 24/7 job, but with today’s economic crunch and high cost of living, being a house wife does not mean you cannot earn for a living and help your husband. With the advent of internet and e-commerce putting up a business online and staying at home is the perfect solution. This is the inspiring story of Joaymah Capuno, a normal housewife who became a successful online “entrepinay” by being a distributor of MyDivisoria PH.

Welcome to the life of Joaymah Capuno a timid, 36 years old wife and a mother of a lively five-year-old son from Tarlac. Being a full-time housewife brings joy to her heart and makes her feel complete. But life is not a bed of roses, a sudden financial crisis happened that severely affected the economic well-being of the family, she does not want to be a damsel in distress and let her husband find a solution on his own. The starting point is the problem. She tried looking for online freelancing jobs as advised by her friends, but she is not that skilled when it comes to computer and the job descriptions written were quite alien to her. If ever she puts up a “sari-sari store” she needs capital and almost all her neighbors already have one.
By April 2016, a close family friend invited her to become an online reseller of MyDivisoria PH. She was doubtful about the concept of online selling due to reports of scammers online but having no choice she still gave it a try. Just using her Facebook and smartphone she started reselling stuff posted at the reseller’s page of the said social commerce company. It was hard at first, creating an online persona, building an audience and selling to people you have not yet met. But she continued and pressed on. Little did she know that just by downloading and posting items to her Facebook account she is already earning and selling RTWs, sandals and other items like hotcakes. With the profits she made in the first few months she invited the company’s founder – Karlo Alamares to visit her and teach her how to be a distributor for the province of Tarlac.
Joaymah and her team of resellers were trained and taught the basics of Social Media Marketing and how to use Facebook effectively in selling their products. With a number of resellers under her command, Joaymah became the sole distributor of the province of Tarlac, with orders worth P20,000 – P30,000 (gross) per week. Last Christmas season, she was flocked by numerous orders from her resellers and direct buyers. A Merry Christmas indeed for her and her family. The beauty of the MyDivisoria PH business model is that it is easy to execute as Facebook is universal and user-friendly, can be started even without capital as she started by pre-orders and there is the all out support of the staff and founders of the company. As Karlo eloquently put it – “The end goal of MyDivisoria PH is to decentralize e-commerce, and make it a livelihood opportunity for mothers, students and the unemployed.”
From housewife to online entrepinay and distributor – the journey of Joaymah Capuno is a story worth to be told as we start the New Year. An inspiring story of how technology, the right team and a mother’s determination have turned a normal housewife to a successful online entrepinay, a challenge to all the mothers out there who wants to become micro-entrepreneurs while staying at home. If she can do it, other full-time mothers out there surely can do it also.
